GOP Unveils Proposed One Trillion Dollar Stimulus Package

The one trillion dollar Senate GOP stimulus proposal was officially unveiled yesterday. The new proposal is being called the HEALS Act which stands for Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools. It’s meant to primarily assist in those areas mentioned in the title, including a second round of direct payments to Americans and a second round of Paycheck Protection Program loans in attempt to keep small businesses afloat. While this comes as much needed good news, there is concern over the cuts they intend to make to unemployment benefits as part of the bill. The 600 extra dollars a week unemployed Americans are receiving right now, which expires in a matter of days, would be decreased to $200 dollars a week. This reduction will most likely prove to be a point of contention with Democrats, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hopes to bring the bill to the house within the next two to three weeks.
