U.S. and Pfizer Reach Agreement on Vaccine
As U.S. coronavirus numbers soar, the government is funneling money into a possible future vaccine.
The federal government reached what’s being called a “historic” deal to buy tens of millions of vaccines from pharmaceutical company Pfizer, if it’s approved. The senior vice president of Pfizer, said “preliminary data from the study shows a good immune response from patients vaccinated and we plan to start the large scale clinical trial by the end of July to 30,000 patients.” Meanwhile, at the rate the virus is spreading, officials say if you don’t already know someone who’s been infected, that’s likely to change in the coming weeks. California has now surpassed New York in total confirmed cases. and reports say many in hard-hit areas like Los Angeles county are young people. Researchers at the university of Washington now estimate the U.S. will see almost 220-thousand deaths by November. but, that’s about five-thousand deaths below an earlier forecast thanks to people wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
