Opening Day for the 2020 MLB Season is Here

Nearly four months behind schedule, Major League Baseball is set to begin the 2020 regular season today!
The first pitch will be thrown out tonight in Washington as the Yankees take on the Nationals and Dr. Anthony Fauci is set to throw the ceremonial first pitch. It’s the first of the big three american pro sports leagues to start play since the covid outbreak halted the season. The short schedule is under tightly controlled and unusual circumstances for players, coaches, umpires and fans. The season will be played without fans in the stands, with simulated crowd noise.  For players there will be no high-fives and for managers, no lineup card exchanges or arguing with umpires. But, all will be required to take multiple covid-19 tests per week. Despite the new health and safety precautions, the 60-game season was a risk some players weren’t willing to take. Specifically Canada wasn’t, as the country denied the Blue Jays’ request to play home games in Toronto because of cross-border travel. Even with limited regional schedules, some clubs will still have to travel to current coronavirus hot spots to play teams in Arizona, California, Texas and Florida.
