Twitter Cracks Down on Thousands of QAnon Accounts, Content, More

Twitter cracked down on thousands of QAnon conspiracy theory accounts last night for policy violations. The social media platform announced they removed over 7,000 accounts connected to QAnon which has been described as a group that spreads “baseless far-right internet conspiracy theory” content. A few of these unproven claims have even had an impact in U.S. politics. Now it’s believed the group and its supporters violated the service’s terms by “coordinating abuse around individual victims or attempting to evade a previous suspension” and more. In an official tweet, the company said, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm.” They will prevent QAnon related content from surfacing in searches, trends, and conversations, as well as block links to QAnon related content over the next few weeks. It’s predicted when all is said and done, over 150,000 accounts worldwide may be impacted.
