40 National Guard Medics Deployed to Hospitals in Grand Strand Area

South Carolina health officials announced yesterday the National Guard has been activated to “provide support” for hospitals across the state. It’s reported 40 National Guard medics will be deployed to five different hospitals along the Grand Strand. They are all expected to arrive today at Conway Medical Center, McLeod Loris, McLeod Seacoast, Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital. The South Carolina Hospital Association President and CEO said, “over the past month, COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased significantly in Georgetown and Horry Counties. Staffing support from the National Guard will allow the region’s hospitals, which are operating at or near capacity, to expand their ability to care for patients in need.”
