Florida Teachers Union Files Lawsuit Over Governor’s Plan to Reopen Schools

One of the largest teacher’s unions in Florida has filed a lawsuit over the state’s plan to reopen schools.
The lawsuit was filed yesterday by “Florida Education Associated” in an attempt to stop Governor Ron Desantis and state education officials from sending children back for in-person classes this fall. Amid Florida’s surging coronavirus cases, the union is calling the move by the governor, “reckless and unsafe”.
The lawsuit was filed in the state circuit court in Miami against Desantis, education commissioner Richard Corcoran, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida State Board of Education and the Miami-Dade county mayor. The FEA says the move is “to protect health and well-being of students, educators and communities.” On Sunday, the state reported 12,478 new positive covid-19 cases and 87 deaths
