Numerous High-Profile Twitter Accounts Hacked

Yesterday, numerous high-profile Twitter accounts were hacked as part of a “coordinated social engineering attack”. In what’s being considered one of the biggest security breaches in the company’s history, accounts belonging to former President Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and more were compromised. It appears the attackers were posting content promoting a cryptocurrency scam and soliciting donations via Bitcoin in their profiles. In response, more than an hour after the attack began, Twitter put prevent holders on all verified accounts from tweeting. The majority of accounts have mostly been restored as of now. A Twitter spokesperson also confirmed the company is still investigating the breach and looking for other data that may have been impacted. It’s believed the scammers received at least $100,000 worth of Bitcoin through hundreds of transactions. It’s reported the FBI is also now looking into the incident.
