Proposed Restriction on International College Students Reversed
The Trump Administration confirmed yesterday they will rescind their in-person class requirements for international students. Their intention to force foreign students to leave the U.S. if they did not attend in-person classes this fall was announced over a week ago. It would affect over a million students currently here on visas and was met with severe criticism, especially from universities including Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They immediately filed a lawsuit against the administration, arguing “the decision was made recklessly and would pressure schools to open their doors amid the coronavirus pandemic.” It was finally decided yesterday the proposed policy change would be reversed while in a court hearing for that lawsuit. This comes as a major victory to those who opposed it, however the administration may still attempt to issue other similar restrictions as the fall semester approaches. This could include applying the same ruling but to incoming foreign students only.
