The Deadline to File Income Taxes is Tomorrow

Don’t forget that the postponed deadline to file income taxes this year is tomorrow! The uncertainty of COVID-19 is what led to the initial deadline extension. Internal Revenue Service offices being shut down and employees transitioning to work from home led to a back log of paper returns and answers for taxpayer questions. The IRS had also been tasked with processing the more than 160 million direct stimulus payments. This year, taxpayers do still have the option to request an extension to October 15th. The form for that must be submitted tomorrow. Your refund may also be bigger than expected as interest on refunds issued after April 15th may be paid back to you. They also suggest you file online if you normally do so on paper. This is due to the fact that the IRS still has a huge backlog of physical paper returns to complete and you could be waiting for your money for a while.
