Crowds Celebrate Holiday Weekend as COVID-19 Cases Continue to Spike
Images of crowds celebrating the 4th of July weekend came with serious concerns of skyrocketing COVID-19 cases across the nation. In Florida, more than 200,000 people have now tested positive. It took Florida nearly four months to reach 100,000 cases and only two weeks to double that number. Their highest single-day increase was reported on the 4th of July with over 11,400 confirmed cases. About 3,731 people have died, the majority largely concentrated in just three counties. States such as Texas and California aren’t better off as both report over 200,000 cases as well. At least 31 other states are also still seeing disturbing rises. This all comes as a group of international experts reveal the virus is most likely being transmitted through droplets floating in the air. Cases in the U.S. are nearing 3 million with over 130,000 deaths. State and local officials want to take matters into their own hands as governors and other federal leaders are persistently absent. Along with mandating face masks, stay-at-home orders are also being considered in several cities.
