Remains Identified as Missing Fort Hood Soldier Vanessa Guillen
The remains found earlier this week in connection to the missing Fort Hood soldier have been identified. They were in fact confirmed to be that of 20-year-old Private First Class Vanessa Guillen who had been missing since April 22nd. Following this announcement, it was discovered that one of the alleged suspects, another Fort Hood soldier, shot and killed himself while local and federal authorities were closing in on his home early yesterday morning. A second suspect, who has only been identified as the estranged ex-wife of the Fort Hood soldier, has been taken into custody and is awaiting charges. Guillen’s family strongly believe her death was a direct result of the continual sexual harassment she faced on the base she worked at. In an emotional speech yesterday, Guillen’s sister demanded justice for Vanessa in the form of a congressional investigation, saying her life “was no joke”. She has also called for the U.S. army to take more responsibility for what happened under their watch.
