John C. Calhoun Statue in Charleston Being Removed Today
The John C. Calhoun statue in Charleston is being removed today for its controversial nature. In recent weeks, racial injustice groups and protesters have made demands the statue be removed since the former U.S. vice president openly advocated for slavery and owned about 80 himself. The Charleston City Council voted last night in favor of relocating the monument and work began this morning around 1 a.m. There have been reports the removal has been continually delayed and this can be attributed to several different reasons.
