President Trumps Signs Police Reform Executive Order

In light of the recent protests, and violence still ensuing, President Trump is set to sign a police reform bill today. The executive order will mainly establish a “national certification system for law enforcement agencies and a database to better track excessive uses of force by police officers nationwide”. It’s believed this will encourage higher standards among police departments across the country. Mental health services will also become more available to officers. While the president has yet to give an official speech on the issue, he has said the recent shooting death of Rayshard Brooks was a “terrible situation”. However, many believe this new legislation will not go far enough. This does not include outright banning the use of choke holds by police which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has referred to as a form of lynching. Other more specific details are left to be hashed out between democrats and republicans, both who have been preparing sweeping and very strict police reform bills on their own.
