North Carolina House Leaders to Vote on “Second Chance Act” Bill
North Carolina House leaders are expected to vote on the Second Chance Act bill as early as today. The bill aims to give people the chance to clear their criminal records. If someone has committed a non-violent misdemeanor or felony, they would be able to petition to have those convictions expunged following several years of good behavior. Furthermore, charges would be automatically removed from the records of those found not guilty or had their charges dismissed. The North Carolina Senate passed the act unanimously last year. A similar law also went into effect in South Carolina beginning last year.
