Shooting Deaths of Two California Officers May be Connected

The shooting deaths of two officers in California may be connected. On Saturday afternoon in Ben Lomond, a Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office sergeant was killed and two other officers injured when responding to a call of a suspicious van. It was believed the van had weapons and possible bomb-making materials in it. When they arrived, the van was spotted driving away which sparked a vehicle pursuit. It led to a residence where they were ambushed with gunfire and explosives. The armed suspect got away but was later apprehended in relation to a car-jacking. He was shot during the altercation, but was treated for his wound. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Steven Carrillo who was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California. Now the FBI are investigating a possible connection to a similar incident that occurred on May 29th in Oakland that also involved a white van. Amid protests, a federal security officer was also killed and a second critically injured.
