All Four Officers Charged for Death of George Floyd
All four officers involved in the death of George Floyd were arrested and charged yesterday evening. The announcement was made by lead prosecutor and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. He said, “George Floyd mattered. He was loved. His life was important. His life had value.” Former officers Tou thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. If found guilty, they could face anywhere between 10 and 40 years in prison. Additionally, Derek Chauvin’s charge was increased to second-degree murder. His bail was also raised from half a million to a million dollars. However, Ellison has warned prosecuting police officers is often very difficult and the past has proven that. But he said they are vigorously pursuing justice, truth and accountability and asked for the public’s trust as protests, which were largely peaceful again yesterday, continued to erupt across the country.
