Louisville, Kentucky Police Chief Fired Following Fatal Shooting

A Kentucky police chief was fired following the fatal shooting of a local business owner. Police said the victim, David McAtee, was killed while the Louisville Metro Police Department and the National Guard were trying to break up a “large group of protesters”. They reported someone opened fire and the officers returned fire, which resulted in his death. It was later discovered two of the officers involved had not activated their body cams which violates department policy. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said, “this type of institutional failure will not be tolerated. Accordingly, I have relieved Steve Conrad of his duties as chief.” Kentucky State Police will conduct an independent investigation into the incident. The National Guard will also carry out a separate investigation. Deputy Chief Robert Schroeder has assured if any other policy violations have occurred, there will be consequences.
