Protests, Riots Spread Across the U.S. Over Death of George Floyd
The White House went dark last night and President Trump was taken to a bunker following violent riots across the country. Last night in DC, more than 50 secret service agents were injured as a result of being hit with thrown bottles and Molotov cocktails. Multiple small fires were also set in the streets outside the White House. St. John’s Episcopal Church just across the street was defaced and the basement set on fire. Secret service and other authorities also spent a good portion of their nights searching for possible car bombs. Thousands of protesters have been arrested and at least one killed. Retailers such as Target, CVS and Walmart have been forced to close some of their stores as they become the subjects of looting, rioting, and destruction. This all comes following the death of George Floyd while in police custody. Officer Derek Chauvin, the man seen pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck, was fired and arrested four days later for third degree murder and manslaughter. He is currently being held in a maximum security prison. His wife filed for divorce Friday afternoon.
