Protests Also Erupt Across South Carolina in Wake of George Floyd’s Death

Protests over the death of George Floyd also erupted across South Carolina this weekend. Curfews were enacted and ignored in multiple counties and cities including Columbia, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and more. Following peaceful protests on Saturday, downtown Charleston was vandalized, burned and looted. The rioters were met with tear gas, armored cars and 35 people ended up being arrested. Mayor Brenda Bethune declared a civil emergency for the city of Myrtle Beach yesterday and a curfew was put in place from 6 PM to 6 AM. At least 23 people have been arrested, many for disorderly conduct, over the demonstrations held yesterday.
