Riots in Kentucky Over Death of Breonna Taylor End in Gunfire
Even more protests broke out last night, but this time in Louisville, Kentucky over the death of a woman named Breonna Taylor. In March, three officers entered 26-year-old Taylor’s apartment by force on a search warrant in relation to a narcotics investigation. The officers said they announced themselves and returned fire when Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, began firing at them first. Taylor was shot at least eight times and killed. Walker was charged with attempted murder of a police officer and first-degree assault.
Prosecutors are working hard to get the charges dropped and have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the department, claiming the police never announced themselves. Last night, around 600 protesters took to the streets to demand justice for Taylor and Walker. Things ended violently after seven people were shot, one critically. Police at the scene said no shots were fired by them. They added some of the protesters were taken into custody.
