Woman Exposed 180 People to COVID-19 After Attending Church

Health officials are looking to double down on mass gatherings as states reopen. In California, a woman tested positive for COVID-19 the day after she attended a Mother’s Day church service and unknowingly exposed up to 180 people. Those who attended have been notified, instructed to quarantine and will receive tests. This incident has only highlighted tensions between states and stay-at-home protesters. Governor Gavin Newsom has begun to lift some restrictions, however
in-person religious gatherings remain prohibited. It’s unclear if the church will face any legal charges. Texas, one of the first states to reopen, also recorded their highest single-day increase in new coronavirus cases yesterday. It’s unclear at this point if the surge is due to increased testing or more rampant spreading of the virus, but this has caused increased concerns by health officials who continue to condemn large gatherings and reopening too quickly.
