Man Arrested for Threatening to Blow Up Darlington Raceway

A man has been arrested for making threats to blow up the Darlington Raceway. 46-year-old Michael Avin stands accused of leaving threatening phone messages at the raceway on April 27th saying he planned to use a “weapon of mass destruction” against them. It’s also believed Avin penned a letter to another place in the county claiming to have access to 125 tons of “bomb-making materials.” He was arrested and charged with possession, threatened or attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction for an act of terrorism, not resulting in death. He remains in custody at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center awaiting bond.
