Discussions for Virtual Presidential Nominee Conventions Are Underway

The Democratic National Convention announced they will allow for convention planners to seek “alternative voting methods”. This includes virtual voting for the convention which was postponed to mid-August. Party leaders were quick to say no decisions have been made yet, but with the uncertainty of the election they want to provide more flexibility and grant more authority to states and election committees. Waivers without penalties were granted to five states who have been forced to postpone their primaries. In California, they have become the first state to send mail-in ballots to every citizen. Former Vice President Joe Biden has been vocal about his support for a virtual convention if necessary, saying the health safety of Americans is the top priority. Meanwhile, Republicans are also bracing for the possibility of a virtual convention, however they will not start discussions until June or July. They have also brought on a senior adviser for health and safety planning.
