Ahmaud Arbery Death Investigation: DOJ Considers Pressing Hate Crime Charges
The Department of Justice is considering pressing hate crime charges in relation to the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. They are also seriously considering Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr’s request to investigate the handling of the case. Arbery’s mother claims if the video of her son’s death had not been released, Georgia officials working on the case would’ve covered it up. A fourth prosecutor has also just been appointed to represent the Arbery family. Cobb County District Attorney Joyette Holmes, a black woman, was personally selected by Carr for the job. This came after Carr appointed the previous prosecutor, then asked him to step down in favor of Holmes. The autopsy report recently released reveals Arbery was shot a total of three times. Twice in the chest with the third bullet just “grazing his wrist”. It’s also been reported Arbery did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system at the time. Gregory McMichael, 64, and his 34-year-old son, Travis are currently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault and are awaiting bail.
