Father, Son Arrested Last Night for Murder of Ahmaud Arbery
The father and son who chased down and killed an unarmed black man were arrested last night. Ahmaud Arbery was killed on February 23rd while jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick, Georgia. 34-year-old Travis McMichael and his father, 64-year-old Gregory thought Arbery looked like a suspect who had recently committed a series of burglaries in the same area. Armed, the two chased him down in their truck. A physical altercation between Arbery and Travis resulted in Arbery being shot and killed. 74 days later, the two responsible for his death have been charged with murder and aggravated assault. Gregory, a former district attorney investigator, claimed they were performing a citizens arrest and Arbery was killed in self defense. A video of the event that surfaced online earlier this week sparked national attention and was essential to the case. Many are relieved justice is being served but are stunned over the fact it took so long. Arbery would have been 26-years-old today.
