President Trump Vetoes War Powers Resolution
President Trump has vetoed the Iran War Powers Resolution. On January 3rd, he ordered an air strike killing top Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani. The attack was made unbeknownst to Congress at the time. His actions sparked major outrage from Iran who threatened retaliation. In late January they carried out their promise by launching three rocket attacks on an Iraqi base housing U.S. military personnel. Nobody was killed, but it’s reported over 150 people sustained head injuries. The Iran War Powers Resolution was a bipartisan effort by Congress to limit the president’s authorities when it came to using military force against Iran. The president regarded the resolution as “very insulting” and claimed it was meant to divide the republican party during an election year. He vetoed the resolution and it’s believed Congress will not have enough votes to override it.
