President Trump Predicts Higher Coronavirus-Related Death Toll
President Trump said yesterday the U.S. coronavirus death toll could reach up to 100,000 people. This number is much larger than he previously predicted nearly two weeks ago when he estimated around 50 to 60,000 Americans would die. White House Coronavirus Task Force Official, Deborah Birx, says the actual death toll is more likely to reach upwards of 240,000 and that’s with social distancing measures taken seriously. As of yesterday, over 1.1 million Americans have contracted coronavirus with 67,000 deaths. Now, with numerous states reopening and relaxing restrictions despite warnings from top health officials, it seems more and more likely that cases and deaths will increase well beyond the president’s predictions. In New York City, where the virus has hit hardest, funeral homes and hospitals are struggling to keep up with their dead and are running out of places to store them until they can be properly cremated.
