Half of All U.S. States Will Begin Reopening by Tomorrow

By tomorrow more than half of all U.S. states will have begun the first phases of reopening. This comes a day after one million cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the U.S. The president has voiced his support for the states who have taken steps towards reopening. In light of their actions, he also confirmed the Trump Administration will begin “fading out” federal social distancing guidelines. But despite what seems to be positive developments, there are still other states who refuse to lift any restrictions whatsoever and are even tightening them. California is the biggest example of this. Governor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday that he plans to close all beaches and parks statewide after tens of thousands of people were caught overcrowding those areas over the weekend. Newsom said of the decision, “This virus doesn’t take the weekends off. This virus doesn’t go home. We have to manage and augment our behavior.”
