Veterans Killed in Coronavirus Outbreak at Massachusetts Care Facility

The coronavirus death toll has risen at one of the nation’s hardest hit nursing homes.
The Massachusetts facility “Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke” is said to have one of the deadliest outbreaks of covid-19 at a long-term care facility in the United States. There’s been at least 80 patient deaths reported at the state-run home for aging veterans, since the outbreak began. 68 of them are officially confirmed to be coronavirus-related, while 11 were patients who tested negative and one death is currently unknown.
The numbers are catching the eye of federal officials, hoping to figure out what went wrong. One nurse from the facility says she believes it has to do with a lack of personnel and resources. The outbreak at Holyoke isn’t just affecting the patients though as local media outlets near the facility are reporting 81 confirmed covid-19 cases among the staff as well.
