New York Cancels Presidential Primary Set for June

New York has become the first state to cancel their June presidential primary due to the coronavirus. The decision was made by the state of New York Board of Elections following Senator Bernie Sanders announcement to suspend his campaign, making former Vice President Joe Biden the sole viable candidate. Douglas Kellner, one of the Democratic commissioners on the board, said, “At a time when the goal is to avoid unnecessary social contact, our conclusion was that there was no purpose in holding a beauty contest primary that would marginally increase the risk to both voters and poll workers.” Many were quick to voice their outrage. They believe the decision is a violation of rights and could lead to detrimental outcomes and therefore demand it be overturned. Fortunately for them, the decision has not been formally submitted, let alone approved by the DNC, who have jurisdiction over the matter.
