Louisiana Officer Killed, Another Seriously Injured During Four-Hour Standoff
Yesterday one officer was killed and a second critically injured after a shooting in Louisiana. Baton Rouge police responded to a residence around 9:30 AM following a tip they received concerning the suspect. 36-year-old Ronnie Kato was believed to be involved in a homicide that occurred earlier that same morning. When police arrived, Kato began firing at them while barricaded within the residence. The incident turned into a standoff which lasted four hours and required the help of SWAT. During the exchange of fire, an unidentified 21-year veteran of the police force was killed and another unidentified seven-year veteran was shot. He is now reportedly “fighting for his life”. Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul said, “Not only were these police officers public servants, they are fathers, husbands, loved by their family.” He added that the suspect was taken into custody and will be charged “accordingly”.
