President Trump to Sign Immigration Ban Today

President Trump is expected to sign the executive order temporarily halting immigration into the U.S. today. He first made the vague announcement on Twitter Monday, but it was only yesterday he unveiled his full plans. The president claimed because of the pandemic and dramatically increasing unemployment numbers, new green cards and permanent visas will not be issued for the next 60 days. There have also already been talks for possibly extending the order for another 60 days after the first are up.  However, many are very critical of this new ban. The main reason being the ban allows for numerous exemptions. This includes farm workers, health care providers, people with temporary work visas, students, business travelers, emergency personnel, and other essential workers. It’s argued that this ban is very similar to other restrictions the Trump Administration has already enacted and simply doesn’t do enough.
