Michigan Hospital Launches Largest Antibody Test in Nation

Now for your daily dose of good news: a Michigan hospital has officially launched the nation’s largest antibody test. Beaumont Health is made up of 38,000 employees, 4,000 doctors, and about 1,000 MP’s and PA’s. They are the largest health care system in the state and they’re now allowed to test on their own staff to try and determine if their blood contains any antibodies which could be essential in creating a coronavirus vaccine or cure. Spearheading the study is Beaumont’s Director of Infections Disease Research, Dr. Matthew Sims. Sims said the point of the tests is to determine “what percentage of the population is asymptomatic, and what percentage got it and never knew it.” He also hopes to determine how long-lasting the antibodies are against the virus. He added we could start to see the first results within a month.
