Protests Break Out Across Country As Pandemic Continues
As health experts predict the effects of the pandemic could last upwards of a year or more, people have begun to protest. After Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended Michigan’s stay-at-home orders through the end of April and introduced even more restrictions, “Operation Gridlock” was conceived. The protest was spearheaded by multiple conservative groups who blocked all roads leading to the capitol with their cars. They demanded the state reopen its economy and also argued the restrictions impeded their constitutional rights. Michigan residents are not the only one’s protesting as multiple states are seeing similar unrest occurring. However, many experts have determined that, despite protests, no immediate changes are likely to be made. The threat of the virus is too severe and they warn people will just have to accept recovery will be slow and painful. Presently there are almost 653,000 confirmed cases and nearly 33,400 deaths in the U.S.
