U.S. Reports Deadliest Day During Pandemic

Hope that the curve may have been flattening in the U.S. was dashed yesterday after a record breaking 1,858 people died. New York also experienced it’s deadliest day with over 800 deaths where just a day before they reported hospitalization numbers appeared to be plateauing. New White House projections suggest with stay-at-home measures obeyed, the number of infected cases could decrease but 80,000 lives could still be lost by august. Currently, the U.S. death toll has exceeded 13,000 people with now over 400,000 confirmed cases.
To make matters worse, Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams said early data suggests African Americans are at a disproportionately higher risk for contracting COVID-19. He said some cities are seeing as much as 70% of deaths consisting of this demographic. This could be due to the fact that they have more “pre-existing medical issues, less access to health care, and are more likely to work in potentially dangerous jobs.”
