Attempts to Postpone Wisconsin Primary Failed
The Wisconsin Primary will move forward today despite last minute attempts by the governor to postpone. Democratic Governor Tony Evers issued the executive emergency order to delay the primary until June, however it was blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court last night. To make matters worse, the Supreme Court also reversed a lower court ruling which allowed for a deadline extension to send and receive absentee ballots by six days. This means if Wisconsin voters have not yet received or sent their ballots, there votes will not be counted.
Of 1.3 million absentee ballots requested, about 550,000 have not been returned. Polling stations have installed plexiglass dividers and have set social distancing markers, but these new developments have put potentially hundreds of thousands of people at risk.
