Infected Cruise Ships Finally Allowed to Make Port
Two Holland American cruise ships carrying dozens of sick passengers were finally allowed to dock in Florida yesterday evening. Sister ships the Zaandam and Rotterdam have been stranded at sea for weeks. The Zaandam cruise was supposed to end in Chile on March 21st. However, plans quickly changed after 9 people tested positive for covid-19. 179 more people aboard later exhibited flu-like symptoms. The cruise line was finally allowed to dock following days of intense negotiations with local and federal authorities. Four people aboard the Zaandam lost their lives and at least two of them were from coronavirus during this time. But this is not the end for every passenger. Only ones who are deemed healthy will be allowed to disembark. Nine others will be immediately transported to local hospitals and at least 45 other “sick” people will remain on board. Foreign nationals who require flights to get home will be taken to special sanitized chartered planes waiting for them.
