Coronavirus Cases in the U.S. Surpasses 200,000
In the U.S., there are currently over 226,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 5,300 deaths. Two weeks ago, around 70 college students flew from Mexico to Austin, Texas for spring break in defiance of travel restrictions. 44 of them have now tested positive. Dozens more aboard the same flight were also exposed. A Quest Diagnostics lab in New Jersey has reported a backlog of over 160,000 coronavirus tests. Despite their large size, the extreme increase in demand has forced results to be delayed for as long as ten days. They’ve reported similar problems in their other facilities across the country. New York City continues to be the hardest hit city in the country. They’ve had over 2,200 deaths alone which has left their morgues and funeral homes overwhelmed. Despite an increase of business, they’re still forced to lay off employees. If they’re not able to keep up with burials, they will have to start stacking caskets on top of each other.
