Don’t Forget That Today is Census Day
Today is commonly known as April Fool’s Day… but once every ten years it’s also known as Census Day. Nationwide, U.S. residents will be required to fill out the census questionnaire which has been promoted for weeks. The census is important for many reasons. Besides the fact that it’s required by law to participate, the results will impact the lives of every person living in this country. It will determine the number of representatives each state is awarded and how billions of dollars in federal funding is spent for the next ten years. This is also the first time the census has ever been available online. Census officials have assured the site is secure, but most importantly you don’t have to leave home in order to do it. That is something that has become more essential than ever over these last few weeks. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the timing of the pandemic is “great” for filling out your census.
