U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Now Over 3,300 People

In just one day there were 1,000 more coronavirus-related deaths reported in the U.S. which now brings the toll to over 3,300. In total, there are now almost 175,000 cases of the coronavirus here in the U.S. as well. It’s estimated by White House officials that come mid-April there could be upwards of 2,000 deaths every day in places where the virus has hit hardest. This includes New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. It’s also predicted that around this time hospitals will become completely overwhelmed, needing at least 61,000 more beds than are available. Finally, it’s predicted social distancing orders will again be extended through May. By August, it’s believed we will have lost 82,000 american lives. Despite these new alarming numbers, San Francisco doctors are starting to feel “cautiously hopeful” that the stay-at-home orders might be having a positive effect. For the first time in weeks they are not experiencing as much of a surge as they’d anticipated. In New York City, help has arrived as a navy hospital ship carrying 1,000 beds, over 1,000 staff members, medical supplies and more docked in the city.
