Coronavirus Could Have Dangerous Long-Lasting Impacts

As the virus continues to spread, we are learning more about its long-lasting impacts. The virus is known for affecting mainly the respiratory system so it’s no surprise a study done showed it can cause significant lung damage to even some of the healthiest people. In some cases, that damage may be “irreversible”. Another long-lasting impact could be on your heart. Data taken from 82 patients showed 20% experienced some sort of cardiac damage. It’s known to increase chances of heart attacks, and unfortunately, death. Of course more research is needed, but health officials and scientists alike warn that everyone needs to take this seriously. If we don’t help to flatten the curve, hospitals will become completely overwhelmed. There’s already talks to enforce do-not-resuscitate orders, despite families wishes. The fear is that performing resuscitation on COVID-19 patients could expose health care providers. It’s definitely not happening right now, but it’s a conversation being had.
