Hair, Nail Salons Remain Open Despite Risk

As bars and non-essential stores close down statewide, barber shops and salons remain open, much to the uneasiness of those working. Beauticians are one of few laborers who have to physically touch customers. The pandemic has posed a large risk to them for contracting the virus. Another major problem for them is lack of customers. Some salons reported receiving less than five a day where they used to receive dozens. Earlier this week, North Carolina closed all their salons. However, South Carolina’s remain operational despite pleas for the governor to shut them down for the time being as well.
