U.S. Sees Large Increase of Coronavirus Cases Over Weekend
The U.S. saw a major spike in cases this weekend with at least 34,354 confirmed and now 415 deaths. Nearly half of all U.S. cases are in New York alone. This has prompted the federal government to officially activate the National Guard there, as well as in California and Washington who have also been hit hardest by the virus. President Trump has confirmed the deployed units will “carry out approved missions” to help support state leaders currently in charge of over 100 million residents. Another major development was made by the FDA after they approved a new test that can provide results in 45 minutes. Despite all these positive steps forward, the government can’t seem to come to an agreement on a stimulus package. Democrats blocked a massive, $2 trillion dollar relief package yesterday evening, much to the frustration of the GOP. Among many other reasons, democrats believed the package favored corporations over people. Another vote is expected to be held at 1 PM today.
