U.S. Government Working on One Trillion Dollar Economic Relief Package
Yesterday the U.S. announced a one trillion dollar economic stimulus package to help businesses heavily affected by the virus. It will set the stage for further negotiations between republicans and democrats where they can hopefully reach a bipartisan deal to help the economy after it took multiple hard hits over outbreak fears. This includes the Dow experiencing it’s lowest drop in history by almost 2,000 points and the unemployment rate rising nearly 33% last week with nearly 2.25 million Americans filing for unemployment this week. That number is expected to get even worse. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has referred to the plan as “a bold legislative proposal”. But democratic leaders in both the house and senate are hesitant to get on board with the relief package just yet. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in particular said of the plan that it is “not at all pro-worker and instead puts corporations way ahead of workers.”
