California Teen Helps At Risk Homeless During Pandemic

A teenager in California has donated over 150 sanitation kits to the homeless in wake of the recent pandemic. 15-year-old Shaivi Shah felt inspired after listening to a recent speech given by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The homeless population is at high risk for contracting COVID-19 mostly due to lack of access of sanitation products and close living spaces. Presently, there are over 150,000 Californians suffering from homelessness, which is more than any other state. This is according to the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. Shah knew in times like these that a lot of people focus on themselves and forget to reach out to those most in need. With the help of her fellow high school honor society members, they bought supplies then assembled the kits to include hand sanitizer, soap, lotion and reusable masks. They distributed over 150 kits to three different homeless shelters. Shah now hopes her actions will lead others to do the same.
