California Ordered to “Stay at Home”, Other States Follow Suit
The number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. has reached 13,000 people with the death toll surpassing 10,000 worldwide. California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered the state’s nearly 40 million residents to “stay at home” to prevent further spread. Residents may go out for essential things including food, medication, and commuting to work. All other non-essential things, including bars, gyms, theaters, and other recreational places are closed effective yesterday evening. California has been impacted the most by the virus after almost 1,000 tested positive with 19 killed. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also announced they would be shutting down effective at midnight tonight. He signed an executive order that officially closed all non-essential places. He said the order was not a “shelter in place” and that residents may go outside but must use extreme caution. Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf has also ordered a similar shutdown that went into effect last night. Adding to the list today, New York adopted similar protocols.
