Ohio Announces Polls Will Be Closed Today for Primary

Just hours before Ohio voters were supposed to hit the polls, the director of the state’s department of health said it’s not going to happen on schedule. Yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine held a press conference expressing concern for voters. There are currently over 45 cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Ohio. DeWine said “it’s clear that in-person voting does not conform and cannot conform with these CDC guidelines. We should not force voters to make this choice, a choice between their health and their constitutional rights and their duties as american citizens.” DeWine added that “this was not a decision that was easily made, but he believes is the right thing to do.” Ohio is the only state that postponed today’s primary. Florida, Arizona, and Illinois are still going forward. Louisiana, Georgia and Kentucky have also postponed their upcoming primaries.
