U.S. Fires Retaliation Airstrikes After Recent Iranian Rocket Attacks
As was predicted, the U.S. conducted a series of retaliation strikes against Iran yesterday. Two Americans and one British national were killed two days ago after Iranian-backed militias fired multiple rocket attacks on an Iraqi base. Fourteen others were also injured as a result. There have been multiple other rocket attacks in recent weeks, however this was the first to cause deaths of U.S. personnel. The U.S. was quick to react and fired back on five targeted sites, all of which were weapons storage facilities used by the militia groups. The defense department said in a written statement, “these strikes were defensive, proportional, and in direct response to the threat posed by Iranian-backed Shia militia groups who continue to attack bases hosting air coalition forces. These terror groups must cease their attacks…or face consequences at a time and place of our choosing.”
