Local Leaders Look to Improve Public Transportation

Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette is looking to improve public transportation statewide, starting with Myrtle Beach. The matter was discussed at a Regional Mass Transit forum held yesterday at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot and was attended by local community and business leaders alike. It’s been reported that more than 500,000 people rely on the buses and shuttles that Horry and Georgetown counties provide. Right now the public transportation fund only receives a little under $3,000,000 dollars which local leaders argue is not enough to maintain the few buses and facilities they currently have. While a few improvements have been made over the last couple years, it’s clearly not enough. Leaders hope more funds will allow for more buses, more routes, and more frequent stops along with updated facilities.
