Hot Pockets Heiress Could Face 21 Months in Prison for College Admissions Scandal

Federal prosecutors are seeking a 21 month sentence for the heiress of Hot Pockets. Michelle Janavs admitted to attempting to cheat college admissions by bribing people with $300,000 dollars to get her daughters into good schools. Janavs payed one consultant $100,000 dollars to have a proctor change her daughter’s ACT scores and another $200,000 dollars to fake her other daughters sports qualifications. Janavs was arrested before her daughters were formally admitted and now faces almost two years in prison. Janavs was also charged with money laundering and conspiracy. Prosecutors consider her to be one of the more “culpable parents” in the college admissions scam since she knowingly committed the fraud multiple times and didn’t immediately accept responsibility. Janavs’ sentencing will set the stage for other parents involved in the massive scandal. Most notably, Lori Loughlin, who is set to stand trial sometime in March.
